TCLT Standing Committee

To bridge the gap between technology and teaching methodology and curriculum as well as to enhance the exchange on technology-based Chinese language teaching, Hamilton College initiated and hosted the First Conference on Technology and Chinese Language Teaching in the 21st Century (TCLT1), June 8-11, 2000. With the success of TCLT1 and the growing demand for this conference, TCLT2 was co-sponsored by Hamilton College and Yale University (Yale University, June 7-9, 2002) followed by TCLT3, co-sponsored by Hamilton College and Columbia University (Columbia University, May 28-30, 2004), TCLT4, co-sponsored by Hamilton College and University of Southern California (University of Southern California, May 5-7, 2006), and TCLT5, co-sponsored by Hamilton College and University of Macau (University of Macau, June 6-8, 2008). TCLT6 will be held at the Ohio State University, June 12-14, 2010. Because of the increase of overseas scholars (from 13 countries) participated in TCLT1 and TCLT2, TCLT3 was renamed the 3rd International Conference and Workshops on Technology and Chinese Language Teaching in the 21st Century.

A combination of in-depth panel discussions on technology-enhanced Chinese language teaching and hands-on workshops on new technologies on Chinese language teaching is the feature of TCLT conferences, which has made the conference series outstanding in the field of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language. Up to 2010, 178 institutions in 17 countries have sent hundreds of professionals to join TCLT conferences and to be trained through TCLT workshops.

TCLT conferences and workshops have received funding support from the President's Office of Hamilton College, the Dean's Office of Hamilton College, the Center for Language Study at Yale University, Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation Center at Columbia University, the Consortium for Language Teaching and Learning headquarters at Yale University, Cultural Division, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles, College of Social Sciences and Humanities, University of Macau, National East Asian Languages Resource Center, East Asian Studies Center, Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures, and Foreign Language Center at Ohio State University.
